This question is asked alot. The answer is based solely on if you want to grow it out or if you like your length, and how fast your hair grows. The best answer is every 4-6 weeks if you like your length. Hair grows an average of 1/2" a month. Depending on medicine, diet, age, health, and the condition of your hair affect the growth.

If you are trying to grow out your hair, a trim every 2 to 3 months is healthy, if you don't do alot with your hair, meaning not coloring it alot, using a thermal protectant, and using the right products including shampoo and conditioner. If it's been over a year since your last haircut, your hair is crying out for it. Split ends are a hairs worse enemy. If you see white bulbs at the end of your hair, then you have them. These will cause your hair to break further and further up the hair shaft, backfiring your plan to grow out your hair. Eventually you hair ends up appearing to not grow, but really your hair is breaking off.

Talk to your stylist about how often you need a hair cut. Don't hesitate to ask for just a little bit off at a time if you do want to grow your hair out.
